The moment the door clicked shut, something inside Vance snapped. He didn’t touch her at first. He just stared—like she had become the one thing in the world he couldn’t control, and it terrified him more than it thrilled him. “You shouldn’t be here,” he said, stepping toward her anyway. She backed up slowly until her spine brushed the cold glass wall. Rain streaked behind her like silver scars across the city. “Then stop me,” she whispered. And that—God, that—was the beginning of the end for him. His hand grabbed her throat tightly but lose enough so that she could breath. She felt his breath at her cheek, heavy, uneven. “I don’t play games,” he growled. “I break them.” Her fingers curled into his shirt and dragged him closer with a suddenness that stole his breath and for the first time, she pulled him instead of him pulling her. She pressed her mouth close to his ear, not touching, just letting every inch of restraint inside him burn. “Then break me.” she murmured.
